Address: 150 King St W #100, Toronto, ON M5H 1J9, Canada
A big, buzzy Financial District room from one of Canada’s original premium-casual names, Earls Kitchen + Bar at King & University pairs a globe-spanning menu with a serious bar and a wide patio.
The story
Earls is a family-owned Canadian group founded in 1982 in Edmonton by father-and-son Bus and Stan Fuller. It began as a burger joint, but after the founders travelled the family started folding global flavours into the menu, and Earls became a pioneer of premium-casual dining in Canada — today 70-plus restaurants strong. The King & University location brings that polish to the middle of the Financial District.
What to order
Start with the warm spinach three-cheese dip, crispy calamari or fresh oysters. Signatures run from the Bigger Better Burger and steak frites to the Wagyu Oshi Press, Filet Mignon and Steak Tortellini, with fish tacos and Nashville chicken tenders for the table. The cocktails come out of a dedicated test kitchen — the Espresso Martini and Mango Margarita are house staples.
The Space
A large, high-energy room with a long lounge, a lively bar and a big patio that catches the after-work crowd. Modern and upscale-casual, comfortable for a two-hour lunch or a long dinner.
Who it’s for
Financial District lunches, after-work drinks that turn into dinner, client meals and group celebrations — a dependable, everyone-finds-something choice in the core.
Questions and answers
Should I book? Reservations are wise at lunch and after work when the district empties into the room; the lounge and patio also take walk-ins.
Are there vegetarian and gluten-friendly options? Yes — the globally inspired menu carries plant-forward plates, bowls and salads with dietary choices marked.
What should I try first? The spinach three-cheese dip to share, then a steak — the Filet Mignon or Wagyu Oshi Press — or the Bigger Better Burger.
Is it good for groups? Very — the size, shareable starters and full bar make it a natural for teams and celebrations.
When’s the best time for happy hour or the patio? The after-work window is prime for the lounge and patio, with happy-hour drink and food specials in season.
