Jeanne Beker, a multifaceted figure from the fashion world

“Toronto can be confidently called a city of talented people,” writes torontonka.com. That’s where lots of truly gifted figures were born, who later became recognized idols. Perhaps the city’s unique atmosphere itself contributes to all of that. After all, how else can you explain the literal total success of its natives?!

In this sense, Jeanne Beker is no exception. She gained fame as a Canadian TV personality, fashion editor and writer. Such a multifaceted personality is a true jewel of Toronto’s bohemia. Her opinions and fashion advice are pretty authoritative, with each appearance of Jeanne on the screen turning into a true event. It is her to whom we dedicate our material.

Early years

Jeanne was born on March 19, 1952, in Toronto. Her parents were Jewish Holocaust survivors born in Poland. Later, however, they ended up in Canada as immigrants from an Austrian camp that housed displaced persons.

Getting Started

Our heroine was a high school student at William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute. Her career began with acting in 1968 when she made her debut in the TV sitcom Toby.

Subsequently, the young woman became a student of the theater faculty at the University of York. After that, she decided to go to Paris to study mime.

After graduation, our heroine returned to her hometown of Toronto and began working as a radio reporter, telling her listeners about art. Meanwhile, Jeanne’s acting career kept on going.

Television

In 1978, our heroine started creating entertainment content for television.

1979 marked the launch of her groundbreaking music show The NewMusic, for which she co-hosted. Besides, she hosted Rockflash news bits on MuchMusic when it first began, as well as MovieTelevision and Entertainment Tonight features.

Fashion

Over time, Jeanne realized she also would like to try her hand in the fashion industry. That led to her starting the first fashion trend website on the Internet in 1995.

In 1985, Beker embraced the opportunity to host Fashion Television, which she hosted until 2012.

Interestingly, Jeanne was also a producer for this program. In 2012, she officially announced that the program was closing. The woman then noted that her dream had been fully completed.

Many people were genuinely upset by this news at that point. After all, our heroine’s program was a veritable treasure trove of valuable fashion information. It was where most people learned about the latest fashion trends, events occurring at the shows and collections of this or that fashion house.

Between 2012 and 2014, Jeanne was involved in other television projects, where her allotted role was the host of fashion segments.

Also, at the same time, our heroine began to master a new craft. In fact, she was passionate about writing articles on fashion and style for the most famous publications. In particular, we are speaking of the Toronto Star, The Kit and The Loop.

A new idea

After becoming a true style icon, Jeanne felt she was well on her way to designing a limited-edition clothing line of her own. After all, she, like no one else, knows all the fashion trends of the past and present, which is the key to many secrets of designing well and truly stylish clothing.

So our heroine successfully realized her idea within the 2001 and 2002 periods.

In 2010, she launched her clothing line for Fall/Winter and Spring/Summer seasons. The 2013 was marked by the release of Jeanne’s footwear and accessories lines.

2014 was a memorable year for our heroine, with the launch of a capsule collection of clothes, which later became incredibly successful.

Then starting in 2015, the television program Style Matters with Jeanne Beker came on the screens. Here, Jeanne introduces viewers to fashion trends and the latest events in the fashion world and presents the novelties of her collections.
