A Mavam sits below the counter rather than on it, which means the group heads are fed by a system designed to hold temperature steadily through a rush, and it means nothing blocks the sightline across the bar. What exists instead is a long run of repeat customers from the surrounding towers who order the same drink several mornings a week \u2014 which is, for a caf\u00e9 of this type, the more meaningful credential.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_its_for\"><\/span>What it&#8217;s for<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Three uses dominate, and they take turns through the day. The first is the morning takeaway run: people from the surrounding office buildings coming through in a wave, ordering fast, leaving fast. The constraint is physical rather than social: the indoor room is small, and the seats that work for a laptop are limited, so a weekday morning arrival will often mean waiting for one or taking the patio. Outdoors there is space to spread out but no realistic power supply, so plan around your battery rather than around a socket. It works as a real breakfast or a light lunch, which matters in a district where the alternative is a chain sandwich in a plastic wedge. Because the surrounding towers empty out, the caf\u00e9 closes in the late afternoon rather than the evening \u2014 it is not a place for an after-dinner coffee.<\/p>\n<p>Weekends invert the pattern. The commuter traffic vanishes, the room is calmer, and the crowd becomes tourists and locals rather than badge-wearers. In summer the patio is the entire reason to choose this address over any of the dozens of alternatives within a five-minute walk; in winter, with the terrace closed, it is a small white room with very good coffee and not many seats. King Station on the Yonge line is the closest subway stop and puts you a few minutes away on foot; Queen Station works nearly as well from the north.<\/p>\n<p>The whole surrounding area is dense and walkable, and there is no reason to arrive by car \u2014 this is a part of downtown where parking is expensive when it exists at all. Streetcars run along both of the main east\u2013west corridors nearby, and the walk from Union Station is comfortable in good weather.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Good_to_know\"><\/span>Good to know<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Judge the caf\u00e9 by the patio, not by the door. The indoor room is small enough that a glance from outside can suggest there is nowhere to sit when there are twenty free seats out back. Conversely, in the cold half of the year that indoor room is all there is, so the same caf\u00e9 can feel like two different businesses depending on the season.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing is bookable and there is no table service in the usual sense \u2014 order at the counter, take a number or wait for your name. If you like a strong coffee, say so when you order; the house style is smooth rather than aggressive.
