Each of her works is unique in the sense of using a particular style and even manner of writing. After all, to create her pieces, the author applies various techniques that subsequently transform her works into a real extravaganza.

Equally interesting is the fact that our heroine decided to take up writing quite spontaneously. Moreover, she had to make some rather drastic changes in life to fulfill such a desire. But in Marta’s case, it’s fair to say that the risk was worth it. After all, her work has brought Marta not only maximum enjoyment but also significant success and self-realization. To do that, you’ll agree that it was once worth taking a risk and making a rather audacious move.

Thus, Martha’s story is quite exciting and certainly unlike any other. So it’s definitely worth it to catch the reader’s attention and who knows, maybe some of you also harbor a writing talent but are scared to admit it even to yourself. For if that is the case, then let this story be a true inspiration to you.

Toggle

Packed learning experience

At the beginning of her career

About novels

Poetry

Packed learning experience

The writer was born in 1960 in Toronto, Canada. She attended a French-English bilingual school. Following her schooling, our heroine became a student at the University of Edinburgh, where she pursued studies in history, French and Russian. After that, the young woman continued her education at the Sorbonne, followed by the University of Toronto.

All in all, Martha’s studies turned out to be quite packed. But what’s interesting is that it was in her native Toronto that she got her true interest in theater.

At the beginning of her career

In 1981, when she returned from a trip to Asia, Martha wanted to try her hand at writing. Moreover, during that same time, our heroine decided to end her teaching career (she had previously shared her knowledge of English and French) and became a formal employee of the Toronto Public Library.

There she took the final plunge into writing. It should be noted, she was doing it quite successfully. When Martha ventured to go on record as a writer and started publishing her works, it turned out that readers got interested in her writings. Furthermore, her works became published extensively not only in her native Canada but also in countries such as Hungary and Germany.

About novels

The most popular novel of our heroine is considered to be The Shape I Gave You. It was written in 2006-th. Subsequently, Maclean’s magazine endowed the work with national bestseller status in 2006.

In her next major novel, Incident Report, the author used the format of short stories, which comprise chapters of an entire novel. Such a technique was necessary for the writer to describe incidents occurring to her personally throughout her work as a librarian.

It’s worth noting that work, being a novel, is imbued with conventional elements. In particular, we are speaking about the love line and mysteries. Our heroine also wanted to convey through her work the reality that Toronto libraries have served as a shelter for an urban population, particularly marginalized residents.

Poetry

It is worth emphasizing that in addition to prose works, our heroine also writes poems, with many of those published in magazine editions. So, of course, the author published poetry collections. They have also enjoyed considerable success and have become quite popular among Martha’s readers, who frequently post their favorite poems by our heroine on their pages on various social networks.

“Martha Baillie is known to many as a Canadian poet and writer,” writes torontonka.com.
